We noticed this restaurant while strolling on pedestrianized Lavalle and thought this might be a change from empanadas and steaks, so we tried to get there on a Saturday evening – but they were not open. In a Trip Advisor posting I read that they are only open for lunch, so we tried the next day for lunch, but it was Sunday and no – it was not open. Nowhere do they post opening times on the outside of the restaurant.
So we decided to give them another try on Monday for lunch, lo and behold, they were open. Given the later experience, maybe we should have taken the first 2 events as a sign not to enter, but I was all set for a good Bratwurst. I ordered the most expensive of the set menus, with a bratwurst at its center, served with creamed spinach, my wife ordered the Hungarian Gulasch. This Bratwurst was a very strange sausage, deep-fried!! My wife’s gulasch was actually quite good, but the accompanying spaetzle were little tasteless heaps of misery again, I know my spaetzles and my wife makes them to perfection.
As somewhat a redeeming factors, the apple strudel as desert was very, very good and the coffee was definitely decent – so here you have it: load up on apple strudel and if you must have an entree, try to see if they would do a gulasch with creamed spinach.
